The Better Claim

 The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost

The better claim is my chance to get out. I don't want to live a life that's not meant for me, so I'll take the grassy untrodden trail even if it scares the hell out of me. Travel is one of the only unwavering passions I have, unchanged by time. So I decided to stop waiting around for someone to plan the trip of a lifetime for me, or go with me. I stopped making excuses like time, money, school, fear, loneliness, and lack of experience.  I want to explore other cultures first hand rather than vicariously through lonelyplanet.com and Robert Louis Stevenson books. I want to be lost, even scared in a distant city not knowing where I'll sleep next but living off the excitement of the uncertain possibilities ahead. For some people that sounds awful, and nothing can be more stable than kicking their feet up after their 9-5 and watching their regularly programmed shows, (don't get me wrong, I love me some Trueblood) but that doesn't do it for me, it's not enough. I want to see how other people thrive, or don't. I want to understand what other people are living for. I need to see how the world works, person to person. The journey is mine for the taking, and hopefully you can enjoy it with me. To experience the spice of life, to explore the unknown path with fervent curiosity,
that's my better claim.
So here I go.
